ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dave Thompson bought his first 10cc record, “Donna,” from a record store in Chatham, Kent, during trhe half-term holidays in late 1972.  It was a toss-up between that and Lieutenant Pigeon’s “Mouldy Old Dough” (his mother’s first choice) but 10cc won out.

“Johnny Don’t Do It” followed, and “Rubber Bullets” too - but only after he was barred from calling it up on the telephone Dial-A-Disc service any longer.  The first album, the second, the third... and the fourth, bought and returned three or four times, until finally he got a copy that wasn’t warped.  1976 - the year that major label vinyl halved in thickness.  And the year he met Kevin Godley for the first time, at Queen’s free concert in Hyde Park.

The most impressively bearded rock star of the age chatted normally with an excited fan, and didn’t utter a word about the big news in his life; one month later, Godley and bandmate Lol Creme left the group.

Since that time, Thompson’s love for the band and its history has ebbed and flowed - strong through Bloody Tourists; sporadic and largely Godley & Cremey until The History Mix; intermittent since then, troughs and peaks of interest and enjoyment that will probably be evidenced as you read through this book.

Throughout it all, the collection continued to grow, tapes continued to trade and the urge to write about 10cc never went away.  Indeed, the second article Thompson ever had published, in Record Collector in spring 1984, was a two-part 10cc retrospective. (The first, should you care, was Fairport Convention.)

Like the band, Thompson’s career has diversified vastly since that time.  A Melody Maker regular through the 1980s, wherein he sang the praises of  the newly-released The History Mix, and a contributor to (among many others) Rolling Stone, Mojo, Vox, Q and Alternative Press; and Goldmine,  for whom he finally took a fresh look at the 10cc story in the wake of Mirror Mirror.

Thompson is also the author of well over one hundred books, including biographies of Jeff Beck, David Bowie, Cream, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Julie Driscoll, Joan Jett, John Otway, Iggy Pop, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Simple Minds, Sparks, the Sweet, James Taylor, U2, the Velvet Underground, ZZ Top and many more; encyclopedias on punk, glam, reggae, industrial and goth; handbooks for stamp and coin collectors, rare record price guides... a punky memoir and Bowie fiction.  And, finally... 10cc.

A full bibliography, links to print and e-books, and other material is available at  his  official website.

Thompson lives in Delaware.
